WhatsApp Cuts Support for Pre-2014 iPhones and Android Devices

Overview

  • WhatsApp stopped working on June 1 for devices running iOS versions below 15.1 or Android versions below 5.0.
  • Legacy iPhones including the 5s, 6 and 6 Plus plus Android models such as the Galaxy S III, HTC One X and Sony Xperia Z lost compatibility.
  • The deprecation was postponed from its original May 5 deadline to give users extra time to prepare and update.
  • Meta conducts annual reviews of supported operating systems to ensure core features and security patches remain up to date.
  • Affected users can back up chats to iCloud or Google Drive and transfer their full message history to newer devices.
