WhatsApp Backups on Android to Count Towards Google Account Storage Limit

Change to be Implemented from December 2023, Google One Promotions to Assist Transition

Starting December 2023, WhatsApp backups on Android will count towards Google Account storage limit, which includes the free 15GB storage that comes with each Google account.
This change will be first implemented for WhatsApp Beta users and will gradually be rolled out to all WhatsApp users on Android starting early 2024.
Users will be notified 30 days before this change via a banner in the WhatsApp chat app under Settings > Chats > Chat backup.
Users exceeding their storage limit will need to manage their storage by removing unnecessary items or by upgrading their storage with Google One. Google will offer limited one-time Google One promotions to eligible users to assist with this transition.
Users with a Google Workspace subscription through work or school will not be impacted by this change.
