Overview
- WhatsApp began a limited, phased rollout of Channel Status in late May, making the feature available to select iOS and Android users.
- Channel admins can create story-style posts from the channel interface using photos, videos, text, layouts and captions before publishing.
- Each Channel Status automatically expires after 24 hours and can be published to only one channel at a time.
- Followers see Channel Status items in the Updates tab’s Status tray with a clear “Channel Status” label and can react or share an item to their own Status.
- The change aims to give channel owners a faster, less permanent way to send announcements or behind-the-scenes updates and could increase casual engagement and reshares across WhatsApp.
