WhatsApp Adds '@all' Mentions, Poll Deadlines and One-Tap Group Creation

The update is meant to speed group decisions while giving users new notification controls to limit disruption.

Overview

  • WhatsApp announced the features on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and began rolling them out to many iOS and Android users the same day.
  • The new @all mention sends a notification to every member of a group at once and will still alert muted chats unless a user mutes @all specifically.
  • In groups larger than 32 members, WhatsApp restricts use of @all to admins to reduce misuse and preserve control for large communities.
  • Polls gain three specific tools: an end time that locks voting, an option to hide voter names for anonymous responses, and the ability to edit a poll question for up to 15 minutes after posting.
  • A new Create a similar group button lets users start a fresh group populated with members from an existing chat in one tap, which helps split side conversations without rebuilding participant lists and follows earlier 2026 group-focused upgrades.
