- The downtown Auburn site at North College Street and Magnolia Avenue and Tuscaloosa’s 1130 University Blvd restaurant will close on Dec. 15.
- Team members were offered transfers, with Auburn staff able to move to Opelika and Tuscaloosa employees to the city’s other two restaurants.
- The Alabama actions are part of eight closures across three states, including Athens and Dahlonega in North Georgia and four Tennessee sites in Clarksville, Mount Juliet, and Murfreesboro.
- Whataburger says the shuttered restaurants represent less than 1% of its more than 1,100 locations.
- The company projects over 40 new Southeast openings in 2026 and currently lists 43 locations in Alabama.
