WFP Warns Reversing Gaza Famine Will Take Time, Urges Opening All Crossings

Nearly 3,000 tonnes of food have entered since the ceasefire through limited access points.

Overview

  • The World Food Programme says about 230 trucks carrying roughly 2,800–3,000 tonnes of food have crossed into Gaza since the US-brokered ceasefire.
  • Aid has moved via the Kerem Shalom and Kissufim crossings, with no northern crossing open and damaged roads slowing deliveries.
  • Two convoys totaling 57 trucks reached WFP warehouses intact with wheat flour and nutrition supplies, enabling rapid distribution.
  • WFP has five distribution points operating and nine bakeries producing bread, with targets of 145 distribution sites and 30 bakeries.
  • Distributions have begun in Gaza City and the agency aims to reach 1.6 million people over three months, as the IFRC calls for all access points to open and for support to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
