WFP says funding gaps forced ration cuts, halted hot meals, blocked hurricane-season prepositioning.

Overview

  • Armed groups now control nearly 90 percent of Port-au-Prince, choking market access and driving up food prices, according to WFP.
  • Haiti faces one of the world’s worst food crises, with 5.7 million people in acute food insecurity and catastrophic IPC5 conditions present.
  • WFP reports 1.3 million people displaced, most of them children, with many families sheltering in schools and public buildings.
  • The agency seeks US$139 million over the next 12 months after slashing rations by half and suspending hot meals for newly displaced families.
  • The UN authorized a Gang Suppression Force of over 5,000 personnel, but financing and troop contributions remain unresolved as OHCHR documents extensive killings, including by State forces and drone strikes.
