WFI Suspends Greco-Roman Wrestler Sanjeev Over Domicile, Identity Discrepancies
The federation opened a verification process after official records from Delhi conflicted with those from Haryana.
Overview
- The notice suspends Sanjeev from all WFI-governed activities with immediate effect and remains in force until further notice, signed by president Sanjay Kumar Singh.
- Records cited include an MCD birth certificate issued in August 2022 despite a November 20, 2000 birth date, a Haryana Resident Certificate from September 2022, and a June 2023 passport listing Delhi.
- Haryana’s CRID data reflects Sanjeev as a resident of Jind, creating a mismatch with the passport details that name Delhi as his birthplace and address.
- The WFI has sought clarifications from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Haryana government and CRID, and the Delhi Regional Passport Office.
- A WFI official said Sanjeev’s Aadhaar is from Haryana and questioned the issuance of the Delhi birth certificate and passport, adding that the matter is under investigation.
