The federation cited repeated failures to make the 59kg limit under stricter world-championship weigh-ins.

Overview

  • Neha Sangwan was disqualified at the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria for weighing about 600 grams over the 59kg limit, leaving India without an entrant in that category.
  • On August 25, the Wrestling Federation of India removed her from the senior World Championships roster and named Sarika Malik to the 59kg slot for Zagreb on September 13-21.
  • WFI officials said the two-year suspension was for "consistent weight management issues," stressing that keeping to weight is the athlete’s responsibility.
  • Officials noted that UWW Ranking Series events allow a 2kg tolerance, which had masked earlier problems, whereas world-level weigh-ins are enforced without such leeway.
  • The decision was also framed as financial accountability for government-funded trips estimated at Rs 2–3 lakh per wrestler, following a tournament where India’s women finished runners-up to Japan (140 points to 165).
