Wet'n Wild Lifeguard Dies During Ring Retrieval as Police Investigate Drain-Suction Claim

A death inquiry is underway following the autopsy, with the park disputing the police report’s description of a pool drain as the cause.

Overview

  • Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, a lifeguard leader at Wet'n Wild in Itupeva, died Tuesday after submerging to recover a visitor’s ring during the Water/Walter Bomb attraction.
  • According to the police report and witness accounts, he was trapped by suction at the bottom and colleagues pulled him from the pool before he was taken to a municipal hospital, where he died.
  • Wet'n Wild says the attraction’s pool has no floor drain and operates with lateral drains, asserts its permits (including the Fire Department’s AVCB) are valid, and states it is assisting the family.
  • The Civil Police registered a suspected death case, plan to hear witnesses, seek any footage, and have requested a forensic inspection to assess possible malfunction or maintenance failures.
  • The body was examined at the Jundiaí IML, the family organized funeral services in Bragança Paulista, and the park remains temporarily closed during the investigation.
