Wet, Windy Weekend to Sweep Most of France, With Mediterranean South Largely Spared

Météo France expects a sharp warm-up that pushes the Alpine rain–snow limit toward 2,000 meters.

Overview

  • Rain is forecast across much of the country from Saturday into Sunday, with clearer, drier conditions near the Mediterranean and in Corsica, including largely calm weather in Provence.
  • Temperatures will jump well above seasonal norms, often by 5–10 °C versus Friday, with values near or above 15 °C in many areas and around 20 °C in parts of the Southwest on Sunday.
  • Wind will be a key factor in the northern half, with sustained speeds near 50 km/h and gusts commonly 70–80 km/h, locally up to about 90 km/h along Manche coasts, alongside strong seas in Finistère.
  • The warm spell will raise the Alpine snowline to roughly 2,000 meters, turning recent low-altitude snow to rain and prompting advice to monitor streams and rivers and to drive cautiously overnight Saturday to Sunday.
  • After the weekend, forecasts point to a calmer, milder start to the week, with rain mainly confined to Brittany and the Manche on Monday before spreading across parts of the northwest on Tuesday.
