Westfield Stratford Car Park Fire Contained After Evacuation

Crews contained a blaze involving several vehicles on an upper level in under two hours.

  • London Fire Brigade said several vehicles caught fire on an upper floor of car park C at Westfield Stratford City.
  • The first 999 call came at 4:05pm, with 35 calls received in total about the incident on Montfichet Road.
  • Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters, including crews from Stratford, Poplar and Leytonstone, used a 32‑metre turntable ladder to tackle the flames.
  • The shopping centre was evacuated as a precaution and people were advised to avoid the area due to significant smoke.
  • The fire was brought under control by 5:54pm, crews remained on scene damping down, and two people were treated by ambulance staff and discharged at the scene.
