Western Railway to Cancel 320–350 Mumbai Suburban Trains Daily on Dec 26–29 for Sixth-Line Work

Late-night blocks will commission new signalling at Borivali under MUTP to separate commuter and long-distance traffic.

Overview

  • Western Railway says 320–350 suburban services will be cancelled each day from December 26 to 29, about a 20–25% cut from the roughly 1,400 daily runs on the ChurchgateDahanu corridor.
  • The month-long upgrade began on December 20 and is scheduled to conclude on January 18, 2026, with an additional concentrated block set for January 10.
  • Overnight non-interlocking blocks to commission electronic interlocking at Borivali will be taken in late-night to early-morning windows, with published line closures and speed restrictions during the works.
  • Around 40 Borivali-bound trains originating from Churchgate after 9:30 pm Friday through 9:00 am Saturday will terminate at Goregaon.
  • Long-distance operations will also be adjusted, including closure of Borivali platforms 8 and 9 until December 29, selected Mail/Express trains skipping the Borivali halt or being short-terminated, and several services rescheduled, with officials aiming to avoid unusual cancellations on December 31.
