Overview
- Western Railway has begun installing Kavach on Churchgate–Virar–Dahanu services, marking the shift from AWS.
- The rollout aims to equip all 110 EMUs over 2,358 route km of Mumbai suburban lines by end of next year.
- Certified at Safety Integrity Level 4, Kavach delivers continuous signal updates, in-cab alerts and automatic brake intervention to prevent signal-passed-at-danger incidents.
- The system is already operational on 4,001 route km of the Delhi–Mumbai corridor, supported by 5,800 km of optical fibre links and training for 30,000 staff.
- Commissioning on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is scheduled for March 2026, expanding the Make-in-India modernisation drive.
