Western Railway Halts Platform Ticket Sales at Four Stations for Oct. 15–31

The move seeks to ease festival-season crowding to improve passenger safety.

Overview

  • The restriction covers Bandra Terminus in Mumbai as well as Vapi, Udhna and Surat in the Mumbai Central Division.
  • Western Railway announced the time-bound step through a press release from Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek.
  • Sales will be paused from October 15 to 31 to limit non-traveller presence during Diwali and Chhath travel peaks.
  • Exemptions apply in genuine assistance cases, including helpers for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, illiterate passengers or those needing special care.
  • Passengers have been urged to plan trips in advance and cooperate with staff, with past crowding risks highlighted by a reported stampede at Bandra last October that injured nine.
