Western Line Revised Timetable Rolls Out as Two Evening Trains Skip Borivali

Western Railway says the change is meant to shorten long Borivali stoppages to ease peak congestion, freeing train paths for improved links beyond Virar.

Overview

  • Western Railway’s reworked suburban timetable took effect on Tuesday, September 1, reallocating existing train paths so the total daily services remain 1,414 while adding six services and withdrawing six low‑demand ones.
  • Two evening Churchgate–Virar trains — the 6.22pm AC local and the 7.05pm local — will skip Borivali on a trial basis and will still halt at Dahisar to reduce lengthy dwell times that delay following services.
  • Weekday AC local services rise from 145 to 147 after two non‑AC services were converted to AC, and several routings were changed including a direct Dadar–Dahanu Road through service and extensions of some Virar/Dadar trains to Churchgate.
  • The first day of the timetable saw commuter confusion and several delays of about 20–25 minutes, with Western Railway attributing disruptions to trespassing, alarm‑chain pulls and delays in closing AC local doors.
  • Mumbai’s Western Line is capacity constrained so officials are using timetable reallocation, stop‑pattern changes and short trials to manage peak crowding; authorities say they will monitor the Borivali trial closely and urge passengers to check revised halts and timings.
