Overview
- The Department of Water and Sanitation's weekly report for the period ending 29 June shows the Cape Town/Western Cape supply system at about 74.7–74.9% full, representing roughly 672,847 Ml held in the six main WCWSS dams out of 898,221 Ml capacity.
- Wemmershoek Dam is effectively at full capacity and Clanwilliam has climbed above 90%, marking large improvements compared with this time last year.
- Several catchments, including the Gouritz and Olifants-Doorn areas, have most dams recording more than 100% after recent rainfall, while targeted operations such as pumping have raised Akkerkloof from about 25.9% to 30.6%.
- Not all reservoirs rose: Voëlvlei and Steenbras Lower recorded small week-on-week declines, illustrating uneven local outcomes within the overall improvement.
- DWS says the upward trend is encouraging for households, agriculture and the economy but warns that South Africa remains water-scarce and urges continued conservation and active operational management as winter continues.
