Westchester County Executive George Latimer Challenges 'Squad' Member Jamaal Bowman

Latimer, backed by pro-Israel groups, takes on Bowman amidst controversies over the latter's stance on Israel and recent misdemeanor conviction.

George Latimer, Westchester County executive, has announced his Democratic primary challenge against Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a member of the left-wing 'Squad'.
Bowman has faced controversy for his political stances viewed as anti-Israel, and for triggering a fire alarm in the House of Representatives, for which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count.
Latimer, a well-known New York Democrat with a long history in politics, has never lost an election and has recently returned from a solidarity trip to Israel.
Bowman, who was first elected in 2020, has support from groups and allies such as New York’s Working Families Party, Justice Democrats, and fellow Squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Latimer's challenge comes at a time of political vulnerability for Bowman, who has just $185,000 in his campaign account, while Latimer is expected to benefit from significant outside spending by pro-Israel groups.
