Westbound I-94 to Close Oct. 18–19 for Frazho Road Bridge Beam Demolition

The shutdown follows a Sept. 26 truck strike that damaged the Frazho Road overpass.

Overview

  • MDOT will close westbound I-94 between I-696 and Eight Mile from 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, until about 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19.
  • Traffic will be detoured via westbound I-696, southbound Gratiot Avenue (M-3), and eastbound Eight Mile Road (M-102) to rejoin westbound I-94.
  • Ramps closed during the work include eastbound I-696 to westbound I-94 and the 12 Mile, 11 Mile, 10 Mile, and 9 Mile ramps to westbound I-94.
  • Michigan State Police say motor carrier officers found multiple permit and trailer-loading violations tied to the Sept. 26 crash.
  • MDOT plans additional repairs later this fall to reopen eastbound Frazho Road, with westbound Frazho Road remaining closed until final repairs in 2026.
