West Virginia State Trooper Fatally Shot; Suspect Arrested Following Manhunt

West Virginia State Police trooper Sgt. Cory Maynard was killed while responding to a shooting complaint in Mingo County.
Timothy Kennedy, 29, allegedly began firing his weapon and was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder after an hours-long manhunt.
Nearby residents were advised to stay indoors during the search for Kennedy.
Mingo County has a history of violence, including the 2013 shooting of Sheriff Eugene Crum and the "Matewan Massacre" in 1920.
Flags were ordered to be flown at half-staff to honor Maynard, who was previously awarded in 2015 for saving a man who crashed into his vehicle and stabbed himself.
