West Virginia IDs Now Supported in Apple Wallet

Use remains concentrated at select TSA checkpoints, prompting officials to recommend carrying a physical license.

Overview

  • West Virginians can now add a driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • The Governor’s Office says Wallet IDs are accepted at more than 250 TSA checkpoints, including Charleston Yeager and Huntington Tri-State airports, and travelers should check checkpoint signage.
  • Enrollment requires selecting Driver’s License and ID Cards in Wallet, scanning the physical credential, completing selfie checks, and waiting for DMV approval.
  • Compatible devices include iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16.5 or later or Apple Watch Series 4 or later with watchOS 9.5 or later, with Face ID or Touch ID and two-factor authentication enabled.
  • Officials emphasize privacy features such as on‑device encrypted storage, user review of requested fields, and biometric authentication for each presentation, while advising residents to keep a physical ID as backup.
