West Philadelphia Honors Will Smith with Renamed Street and Celebratory Ceremony

The 2000 block of North 59th Street in West Philadelphia has been renamed 'Will Smith Way' in tribute to the actor and musician's local roots and global achievements.
Will Smith attended the renaming ceremony, expressing gratitude to the city and sharing memories of his upbringing and early inspirations, including his Overbrook High School teacher who inspired his nickname, 'The Fresh Prince.'
The event featured additional honors for Smith, including a basketball court dedication, a key to the city, and a letterman jacket with his name.
Smith announced the upcoming release of his fifth studio album, 'Based on a True Story,' his first music project in 20 years, set to debut on March 28, 2025.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker invited Smith to perform at the city’s 2026 Fourth of July Semiquincentennial concert, further cementing his connection to his hometown.
