Overview
- Shayne Dawson-Dymond became partially paralysed from the shoulder down after 'seizure-type' spasms during a July kayaking race and was rushed to hospital.
- He began to recover some function on September 30, first regaining head control and now limited use of his arms and right leg, with no trunk or left-side movement.
- Months before the race, a benign shin lesion biopsy led to complications and suspected compartment syndrome, and in December 2024 doctors said his left leg would not recover.
- He is undergoing physiotherapy and receiving support from the GB Junior Team for Paracanoeing as he targets a return to sport.
- His family has launched a GoFundMe seeking about £6,000 for a better wheelchair and an electric bike attachment, with more than £3,500 raised so far.
