- On 28 September 2001 Clare Carmichael was found unconscious at a Leintwardine property after a prolonged and violent assault that left her with catastrophic head injuries and lasting disabilities.
- On the 25th anniversary police have formally reopened the original probe, Operation Krypton, and SMCRT detectives are reviewing files and re-interviewing witnesses to identify fresh lines of inquiry.
- Detective Sergeant Amy Kitosi-Isanga has renewed a public appeal and asked anyone with information to contact West Mercia Police or to report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
- Several suspects were identified in the original investigation but no one was charged, so the review is focused on DNA and other forensic techniques that were not available or as advanced in 2001.
- Clare Carmichael continues to live with severe mobility, vision, memory and speech impairments and has repeated her wish to ask her attacker why they did it, saying even small details could help secure accountability.
