West Bengal Projects 12,050 MW Durga Puja Peak, Ramps Up Power Readiness

Officials plan round-the-clock crews, thousands of mobile vans, a 24x7 control room for uninterrupted supply.

Overview

  • Power Minister Aroop Biswas said peak load is expected to reach 12,050 MW on Tritiya, more than 21% higher than about 9,912 MW recorded around the same time last year.
  • About 79,414 personnel will be deployed on continuous duty across the state, supported by nearly 3,700 mobile response vans for emergencies.
  • A central Puja Control Room will operate 24x7 through the festival period, with consumer helplines active for both WBSEDCL distribution areas and CESC-served zones.
  • Temporary festival connections have expanded sharply since 2011, with the state recording 56,034 such connections last year carrying 1,403 MW, up from 20,970 connections and 210 MW in 2011.
  • The minister said a 660 MW supercritical thermal plant, described as the first of its kind in eastern India, is slated for inauguration by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee later this year.
