West Bengal Launches Phase Two of Banglar Bari With Tighter Verification and Fixed Deadlines

The new phase covers 16 lakh households beyond the 12 lakh families already assisted.

Overview

  • A new SOP issued on September 15 mandates door-to-door re-verification by senior block, subdivision and district teams in every gram panchayat.
  • Verification will use a designated mobile app with video recording and geo-referenced photos, and officials will re-check Aadhaar, bank or post office accounts, and mobile numbers.
  • Key dates are set: preliminary lists by October 10, public display through November 10, gram sabha review, submission to BDOs by November 17 and DMs by November 26, with final lists due November 30.
  • Grievances must be resolved within five working days, with complaint boxes and control rooms operating at BDO, SDO and DM offices to contact beneficiaries before and after checks.
  • The state targets about 50 lakh beneficiaries overall, with the remaining 16 lakh from the current roster scheduled to receive instalments in December 2025 and May 2026.
