Overview

  • The WBSSC issued a notification for 35,726 assistant teacher positions—23,212 for classes 9–10 and 12,514 for classes 11–12—in state-aided and government-sponsored secondary and higher secondary schools.
  • Online applications open June 16 and close July 14, with the written examination scheduled for the first week of September.
  • The recruitment drive follows the Supreme Court’s April 3 order and remains subject to the outcome of review petitions filed by the state government and WBSSC.
  • The notification includes age relaxations of five years for SC/ST, three years for OBC and eight years for physically handicapped candidates, and guarantees carbon copies of OMR sheets preserved for three years.
  • Protesting untainted teachers have continued demonstrations in Kolkata, and police detained dozens as they sought reinstatement without retaking the recruitment tests.
