West Bengal Launches First Semester-Based Class 12 Exams for 6.6 Lakh Students

The reform replaces the annual pattern used since 1978 to emphasise MCQ reasoning this term, with writing evaluated in later semesters.

Overview

  • The Semester 3 exams run from September 8 to 22 across 2,106 venues in 23 districts, using OMR-based multiple-choice papers.
  • Authorities flagged 122 centres as sensitive, barred all electronic devices, and deployed measures such as metal-detector checks and CCTV at venues.
  • Two question paper sets were prepared to counter leaks, with packets opened before candidates at 9:55 am and distributed at 10:00 am for most 10:00–11:15 am sessions.
  • Initial delays in delivering question papers and OMR sheets to several districts were resolved by Sunday evening, officials said.
  • Girls accounted for 56.03% of the roughly 6.6 lakh candidates, and the first day featured language papers across the state.
