  • The West Bengal Assembly approved the Netaji Subhas University of Sports and Entrepreneurship Bill, 2025, by voice vote on June 23 despite a BJP walkout, and the legislation now awaits the governor’s assent.
  • Promoted by the Chinsurah Netaji Welfare Trust with backing from Techno India Group, the project carries no financial liability for the state.
  • The main 15-acre campus in Hooghly’s Chinsurah will be complemented by study centers, off-shore campuses and regional facilities across the state.
  • Academic programs will span sports science, management, technology, coaching and sports law with an emphasis on nurturing athletes and professionals.
  • The university will integrate entrepreneurship training and form partnerships with organizations such as the Indian Olympic Association and All India Football Federation.
