Wesleyan Confirms Wendy Osefo’s Resignation After Fraud Indictments

Investigators say returned purchases, social media photos and recovered goods call the reported 2024 burglary into question.

Overview

  • Both Wendy and Eddie Osefo were indicted in Carroll County on insurance fraud–related charges and arrested in Westminster before being released on $50,000 bond each.
  • Wendy faces 15 counts and Eddie faces 18, including felony and misdemeanor charges tied to providing false or misleading information and making a false statement to police.
  • The sheriff’s office reports that more than $20,000 in items listed as stolen had been returned to retailers by the owners after the alleged burglary.
  • Detectives say a homeowner was seen wearing jewelry reported stolen, and a search warrant recovered at least 15 items the couple had claimed were missing.
  • Wesleyan University said Osefo resigned and the school named Associate Professor Courtney Patterson-Faye to take over her sociology course for the rest of the semester.
