WeRide Grows Revenue Rapidly as It Sells Robotaxi Software Overseas

Rapid expansion of licence fees and ADAS shipments is driving top-line growth while heavy R&D spending leaves the company loss-making.

Overview

  • The company reported Q2 revenue of roughly RMB232 million, an 82% year-over-year rise, with management disclosing the results on Wednesday.
  • Overseas sales jumped about 164% year-over-year and now make up nearly 40% of group revenue as WeRide licences Level 4 software to local fleet partners rather than owning cars.
  • WeRide remains loss-making with a Q2 net loss near RMB401 million, R&D spending of about RMB434 million, and cash reserves down to roughly RMB5.4 billion at the end of June.
  • The ADAS business scaled quickly with about 30,000 L2+/L3 WRD 3.0 units shipped in the quarter, improving margins and providing a lower-capital revenue stream.
  • Management reiterated targets to exceed 5,000 level‑4 vehicles by year-end and to hit single-quarter positive cash flow by 2028, but success depends on partner-driven vehicle utilisation, ADAS installations and regulatory approvals in new markets.
