Werder Bremen vs Hoffenheim Canceled Two Hours Before Kick-Off

A wave of illness left Werder without the minimum number of eligible players required under §15 of the DFB rules.

Overview

  • The Frauen-Bundesliga game scheduled for 16:00 on Sunday was called off roughly two hours before kick-off after Werder asked the DFB to postpone the match under §15.
  • The DFB said a 'Krankheitswelle' in the Werder squad left the club without enough fit players to meet competition rules.
  • Werder director Dominik Kupilas said the club informed the DFB immediately, stressed that player health is the top priority, and expressed regret to fans and thanks to Hoffenheim and the DFB.
  • The DFB said it will announce a rescheduled date shortly, and the late cancellation leaves fans, match staff and Hoffenheim to adjust travel and logistics.
  • Under §15 a club must have at least 13 eligible players available or 14 when four or five substitutions are allowed and at least one goalkeeper must be included, which is the threshold Werder said it could not meet.
