Incoming CEO Abi Tierney Pledges to Rebuild Trust Amid Calls for Significant Changes

An independent review found aspects of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) culture to be sexist, misogynistic, racist, and homophobic, leading to calls for significant changes.
Former board member Amanda Blanc's 2021 resignation speech and letter, which warned the WRU of a 'ticking time bomb', were included in the review.
Blanc, who was the CEO of Aviva Group at the time, claimed she was not listened to at the WRU and recounted instances of misogyny within the organization.
Abi Tierney, set to become the first female WRU chief executive in January 2024, acknowledges the loss of trust and vows to rebuild it.
The independent review panel recommends the implementation of 36 changes, including the appointment of an oversight body, further board reform, a 'fit and proper person' test for council and board members, and greater investment in the women's game.
