• Tim Wellens broke away late in the 169 km stage from Muret to Carcassonne and soloed to win by 1’29”.
• Victor Campenaerts finished second and Julian Alaphilippe officially took third place.

• Early in the stage Alaphilippe crashed, dislocated his shoulder, reset it himself and pushed on despite the injury.
• A broken radio left Alaphilippe unaware of the race situation and prompted his premature victory celebration.
