Overview
- The India Meteorological Department placed a well-marked low over southeastern Rajasthan on Saturday and said it has weakened from a previous low-pressure system while still enhancing rainfall in nearby regions.
- IMD forecasts for Sunday call for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in coastal Karnataka, Kerala, parts of the Northeast, Sub‑Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and in pockets of Rajasthan.
- Widespread showers were observed on Saturday across Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, west Madhya Pradesh and parts of the Northeast, showing the monsoon remains active over large areas.
- The IMD has issued alerts for Delhi‑NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and other states and warned of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, including possible thundersqualls of 50–60 km/h in parts of Karnataka.
- Forecasters expect the well-marked low to weaken into a low-pressure area within 24 hours and for the monsoon trough to shift northward, which should cut rain over southwestern Rajasthan from about August 3 while heavy showers persist elsewhere through the weekend.
