Overview
- DWP confirms the Work Capability Assessment will be abolished in 2028/29, with a PIP daily living award becoming the new route to UC health payments.
- Citizens Advice cites DWP data showing 319,000 people on LCWRA have been refused PIP daily living, with an estimated further 500,000 not applying, leaving many at risk of losing both the LCWRA top-up and their work allowance.
- The LCWRA element is worth roughly £416–£423 a month and typically removes Jobcentre work requirements for those deemed unable to work.
- Current work allowances let some disabled claimants keep £411 a month of earnings if they receive housing support or £684 if they do not, before UC deductions apply.
- The DWP says it will run a ministerial review of PIP assessments and points to £3.8 billion for employment support, as ministers express concern over rising LCWRA claims and a focus on youth worklessness.
