Weekend Closures Hit Highway 280 at Pumphouse Road for Bridge Girder Installation

Crews are setting the first beams for the new Pumphouse Road bridge as part of the 280 widening, with completion targeted for October 1, 2026.

Overview

  • Eastbound lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, while westbound lanes will close nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Nov. 14–17.
  • Lane reductions begin at 7 p.m. Friday, with one lane shut every two hours until the 11 p.m. full eastbound closure.
  • ALDOT urges drivers to use Lakeshore Parkway to I-65 to I-459 to return to US 280 and warns of significant delays.
  • The eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp at Pumphouse Road will stay open during this work.
  • ALDOT says demolition of the existing Pumphouse Road bridge is planned between January and early March 2026, with more weekend closures expected next year.
