Weekend Closures Between Reading and Bristol Parkway Will See Buses Replace GWR Trains
Diversions via Westbury or Newbury will lengthen journeys as long-distance services skip Swindon stops.
Overview
- National Rail says planned engineering work on January 10–11 will close lines between Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
- Rail replacement buses will run: two per hour between Reading and Swindon, and one per hour between Swindon and Bristol Parkway, Swindon and Didcot Parkway, and Swindon and Chippenham.
- Some London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads trains will be diverted via Newbury with no calls at Didcot Parkway, Swindon or Chippenham.
- GWR says services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads or Swansea will also run via Westbury, extending journey times.
- Valid rail tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach routes 49 and 55 and Faresaver routes X34, 271, 272 and 273, and passengers are advised to allow extra time and check National Rail Enquiries; further weekend works are scheduled for January 17–18 and 24–25.
