WDR News Chief Calls NDR’s ‘Klar’ Move a ‘Desaster’ as NDR Installs Tanit Koch

The dispute has broadened into a test of how public broadcasters handle pluralism and contentious topics without losing trust.

Overview

  • WDR’s Stefan Brandenburg criticized NDR’s handling of the Julia Ruhs case as a “Desaster mit Ansage” and said conservative viewpoints are not represented well enough in public broadcasting.
  • NDR’s new intendant Hendrik Lünenborg acknowledged communication errors, rejected claims of cancelation, and confirmed that Tanit Koch will take over the NDR editions of “Klar.”
  • Julia Ruhs will no longer present the NDR-produced episodes but will continue as presenter for the Bayerischer Rundfunk installments.
  • Roughly 250 NDR employees accused the pilot migration episode of breaching journalistic standards, while Brandenburg also called the episode’s approach undercomplex.
  • NDR and BR plan to continue and expand the format, with alternating production from 2026 and a higher number of episodes.
