Overview
- The West Bengal School Service Commission published a revised preliminary interview list on Monday after applying the state’s 2026 cut in OBC reservation from 17% to 7%, which altered category and subject seat allocations.
- The commission said the total number of higher secondary vacancies remains 12,445 even though the subject-wise distribution changed because of the new single OBC category.
- WBSSC formally withdrew the earlier final panel, waiting list and recommendation letters and revoked counselling outcomes that were based on the previous vacancy matrix.
- The commission stated that candidates who already completed oral interviews and lecture demonstrations will keep their existing scores, while newly included candidates must undergo physical verification and fresh interviews on a schedule to be announced; some media reports have contradicted this point.
- The revision follows the Supreme Court’s 2025 cancellation of the tainted 2016 panel and a series of deadline extensions, and it leaves thousands of applicants facing fresh uncertainty and a risk of further delay before appointments are completed by the May 31, 2027 court deadline.
