Wayne State University Police Dismantle Pro-Palestinian Encampment

Eight protesters were arrested after refusing to vacate the campus site, citing health and safety concerns.

The encampment began on May 23 with demands for the university to divest from Israel and related companies.
Protesters were given multiple warnings before police, in riot gear, cleared the site early Thursday morning.
University President Kimberly Andrews Espy stated the encampment posed legal, health, and safety challenges.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib visited the encampment and criticized the police's handling of the situation.
Similar encampments have been dismantled at other universities amid ongoing protests against Israel's actions in Gaza.
