His wife, actress Lynn Herring, confirmed he passed at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Home in Woodland Hills, California, after battling early-onset Alzheimer's for six years.
Northrop appeared in over 1,000 episodes of 'Days of Our Lives' across multiple stints, portraying both Roman Brady and Dr. Alex North, and was a fan favorite for his on-screen romance with Deidre Hall's character, Marlena Evans.
Beyond acting, Northrop and his wife operated a cattle ranch in Raymond, California, for over 35 years and turned the town's oldest house into a historical museum, reflecting their commitment to conservation.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, their two sons, Hank and Grady, and his stepmother, Janet Northrop, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans remembering his humor and kindness.
