Overview
- Starting June 17, Waymo One will offer driverless rides in Playa del Rey, Ladera Heights, Echo Park, Silver Lake and along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles County.
- On the San Francisco Peninsula, the service now covers Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae and Burlingame.
- The expansions follow California’s approval last month and boost Waymo’s fleet of over 1,500 vehicles to more than 250,000 paid rides per week.
- Waymo’s Jaguars use lidar, cameras and sensors to navigate urban streets and have recorded fewer airbag deployment and injury-causing crashes than conventional vehicles.
- The company says it intends to launch driverless taxi service in Miami, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., later this year.
