Overview

  • The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has opened a formal probe into RCMP actions during an earlier neighbour dispute call to assess potential intervention gaps.
  • Authorities report there is no ongoing public threat following the murder-suicide in a normally quiet suburban neighbourhood.
  • RCMP first responded around 6:40 p.m. to the 11800 block of 239th Street without making arrests, then returned just before 11 p.m. to reports of fire and gunfire at the same address.
  • Firefighters and officers found two vehicles and an attached garage ablaze and discovered a man and woman in their 60s slain inside their home.
  • The alleged attacker was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted injury in a neighbouring residence, and neighbours say the victims had reported years of threats to police without charges being laid.
