Washington State Senator Arrested in Hong Kong Over Unlicensed Gun in Luggage

Washington State Senator Jeff Wilson claims firearm incident was "an honest mistake", argues he discovered unlicensed gun mid-flight and immediately reported it to Hong Kong customs officials upon landing.

Washington State Senator Jeff Wilson was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport for having an unlicensed gun in his carry-on luggage.
Wilson reported the gun to customs officials on arrival in Hong Kong, claiming he was unaware it was in his baggage until mid-flight.
The firearm was reportedly not detected by airport security in Portland, Oregon, during Wilson's travel to Hong Kong.
Possession of a firearm without a license in Hong Kong is punishable by up to 14 years in prison and a fine of HK$100,000 ($12,800).
Wilson, who was released on bail, is expected to have another court hearing on October 30.
The US Transport Security Administration (TSA) is investigating the incident.
