Washington Spirit's Croix Bethune Out for Season After First Pitch Injury

The rookie midfielder sustained a torn meniscus while throwing a ceremonial pitch at a Nationals game, ending her promising debut season.

Bethune, an Olympic gold medalist, was honored at the Nationals game on August 28.
She had tied the NWSL rookie record for most assists in a season with 10.
Bethune also scored five goals in 17 matches, making her a strong MVP candidate.
The injury occurred away from training, confirmed by Spirit coach Jonatan Giráldez.
Bethune will miss the rest of the NWSL season and upcoming U.S. national team friendlies.
