Washington Post Says Colts Hid Jim Irsay’s Relapse as Doctor Prescribed Ketamine and Signed Death Certificate

The Colts still plan to induct Irsay into their Ring of Honor on Sept. 7.

Overview

  • The Washington Post reported that in the last two years of his life, Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts concealed his drug relapse from the public.
  • California addiction specialist Harry Haroutunian treated Irsay with opioids and ketamine, and four sources said they saw him receive ketamine injections.
  • Haroutunian signed a death certificate listing cardiac arrest, and no autopsy or toxicology tests were performed.
  • The investigation details overdoses in 2020 in Turks and Caicos, at his Indiana home in December 2023, and at a Miami resort 12 days later that led to a prolonged hospitalization.
  • Irsay’s three daughters, now the team’s owners, declined interviews and requested privacy, and the franchise plans a Ring of Honor induction for Sept. 7 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
