Warriors Hold Firm as Kuminga’s Oct. 1 Decision Window Closes

Renewed Sacramento talks are hindered by Golden State’s refusal to take Malik Monk’s 2027–28 player option.

Overview

  • NBA insider Jake Fischer reports there have been no discussions to extend the Oct. 1 deadline for Jonathan Kuminga to accept his $7.9 million qualifying offer.
  • Golden State’s standing proposals are three years at roughly $75 million or two years at roughly $45 million with team options, while Kuminga’s agent says he would sign if the option flips to the player and otherwise views the qualifying offer as viable.
  • The Warriors and Kings re-engaged on a sign-and-trade built around Malik Monk and a lottery-protected 2030 first-round pick for a three-year, $63 million deal for Kuminga, but talks have not progressed.
  • Team and league reporting indicates the Warriors do not want Monk’s contract, particularly his $21.5 million player option for 2027–28, and would also seek lighter pick protections or a separate destination for Monk.
  • Kuminga was a no-show at a Jimmy Butler–organized minicamp as Golden State enters camp with only nine players under contract and several expected signings, including Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Seth Curry and Gary Payton II, tied to resolving his status.
