Warriors-Blazers Preseason Opener Features Veteran Ramp-Up, Rotation Tests

The focus is evaluation of rotations, not firm roles.

Overview

  • Golden State hosts Portland at Chase Center on Oct. 8 in the Blazers’ first preseason game.
  • Steve Kerr confirmed Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Al Horford will play with minutes slightly increased from the opener’s roughly 15 per starter.
  • Chauncey Billups plans to tinker with starting groups throughout the four-game slate and expand Portland’s rotation to 10–11 players, with Jrue Holiday starting but sitting the second half.
  • Scoot Henderson remains out with a torn left hamstring that is expected to sideline him for at least a month; the Warriors list De’Anthony Melton out and had Seth Curry scrimmage and available to play.
  • Kerr will use the compact preseason to test second-unit mixes and frontcourt pairings such as Horford with Jonathan Kuminga, while monitoring spacing concerns in non-shooting heavy lineups.
