Overview

• Arrest-warrant affidavits say John Guzie Sr., serving as acting chief, returned to a West Suffield home on Aug. 8 and told his sons to “teach him a lesson” before they rushed a man.
• Witnesses reported that one son swung a golf club and both punched the man, with a woman also struck during the melee, and the man later received a diagnosis of a minor head injury.
• Guzie Sr., 54, is charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, is free on a $50,000 bond, and is due in Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 5.
• John Guzie Jr. faces two counts of third-degree assault plus threatening, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and conspiracy, is free on a $50,000 bond, and has an Oct. 17 court date.
• Tanner Guzie is charged with third-degree assault, conspiracy, and disorderly conduct, is free on a $45,000 bond, remains under investigation, and has a Nov. 6 court date while his father is on personal leave from the department.
